Baptist Hospital Laboratory School of Phlebotomy

Looking for a rewarding career in patient care? Consider becoming a phlebotomist. Baptist Hospital Laboratory School of Phlebotomy classes are held throughout the year. No more than eight candidates are selected per class. See the listing below for the 2016 schedule.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED certificate, acceptable work history (two years verifiable), and pass a background investigation with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and/or other law enforcement agencies and finger printing. Once the applicant has been accepted he or she will be required to pass a hospital physical and pay a non-refundable tuition fee of $600. In addition to the tuition fee, students must purchase a text book, supply their own uniforms and shoes and have adequate transportation. Students are only allowed a total of two excused /or unexcused absences during the entire three month program.

Classes are 12 weeks with a four week classroom lecture phase and an eight week clinical rotation phase. Students are asked for a commitment of Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 5p.m., for the classroom phase and from 6 a.m. to noon during the clinical rotation (time variance for some clinical locations). Once applications are submitted, interviews are held approximately one month prior to the class start date. After the interview date, the applicants may log back into the web site for the status of their application.

Applicants receive a Certificate of Completion only after all requirements have been met. Baptist Health Care does not promise or guarantee any student employment with any of our facilities. Upon completion of the Baptist Hospital Laboratory School of Phlebotomy the students will possess the knowledge to safely and correctly perform venipunctures, explain the requirements for any tests ordered, work efficiently in a laboratory setting and have an understanding of the teamwork involved in patient care. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathology phlebotomy technician exam, a widely recognized national certification for laboratory professionals.
